Do you remember when Wooroolin residents lifted their time capsule back in November? Well, they did it in reverse after Monday’s Anzac Day service!

The original cylinder was encased inside a concrete plinth outside Wooroolin Memorial Hall with much pomp and ceremony on Remembrance Day in 1972, with instructions for it to be opened in 50 years.

Now on Anzac Day 2023, it has been refilled and lowered back into the same concrete plinth.

However, this time the instructions are for it to stay down for just 30 years.

Most time capsules are buried underground but the concrete plinth outside Wooroolin Memorial Hall provides far better protection for the precious contents from damp.

Proof of this were the many items from the original capsule which were on display in the bar area of the hall on Monday.

Guests at Monday’s ceremony included representatives from the Wooroolin Lions, Wooroolin QCWA, Wooroolin State School and Wooroolin Hall committee.
