Next year’s Council elections have been brought forward to March 16 because of a clash with Easter.
State Cabinet on Friday approved the move, which was advised by the Electoral Commission of Queensland.
The election had been scheduled to be held on March 30, but this clashes with Easter Saturday next year and the first weekend of the school holidays.
Deputy Premier Steven Miles said the fact that many Queenslanders would be on holidays would mean a big increase in postal and telephone votes, potentially creating delays to declaring election results.
A similar situation happened in 2016 when the date was moved to the week before.
