South Burnett Thrashers are sitting in fourth spot on the Darling Downs Rugby Union B Grade ladder after two weeks of competition.

The team travelled to Roma last Saturday to take on the St George Frillnecks.

Coach Mike Bishop said the Frillies were in really good form.

The weather was hot but the standard of rugby from both teams was really high.

Unfortunately, at full-time the Thrashers were behind 21-14.

Mike said St George scored first from an intercept after about 30 minutes, then scored again out wide.

Thrashers’ Jerry Navugavuge then scored after a build-up of many phases and pick and drives.

At half-time, South Burnett was just behind, 12-7.

“It was over 30 degrees at the oval but it didn’t hinder the game, with tenacious defence from both sides,” Mike said.

“The score remained the same until about the 60th minute when St George scored after what looked like a forward pass.

“We backed it up with good ball movement and Eliajah Kocovanua  scored.

“It was a high quality game which could have gone either way.

“Our boys played well and with a lot of courage in the conditions.”

Iona Varomusu kicked two conversions on debut.

CORRECTION: The Thrashers will be playing Toowoomba Rangers this Saturday at Gold Park in Toowoomba.
