Member for Maranoa David Littleproud has written to Telstra asking for the telco to arrange a meeting with South Burnett residents concerned about the upgrade of a Telstra tower in Kingaroy.
Work to upgrade the existing Telstra tower in Reservoir Street to handle 5G mobile phone communications is believed to be already under way.
A copy of a letter from Mr Littleproud to Telstra CEO Vicki Brady was published recently on a social media page popular with anti-5G activists, anti-vaxxers and sovereign citizens.
The letter states that South Burnett Mayor Brett Otto had “relayed concerns raised by community members” about the community consultation process for the project.
On March 15, Mayor Otto, Cr Kathy Duff and Council staff attended a meeting on site in Reservoir Street with residents opposed to the upgrade.
It was explained at that meeting that, unlike the proposed 5G tower in Redmans Road, Coolabunia, the Reservoir Street project did not require a Development Application to Council as it was simply an upgrade to existing infrastructure.
Mr Littleproud’s letter said it “would be appreciated” if Telstra and / or Downer Group representatives could contact Michelle Anderson to arrange a meeting with concerned community members.
Ms Anderson was the organiser of the protest meeting against the Redmans Road project after which Mayor Otto used his casting vote in Council to reject the Development Application for that tower.
