The success of the inaugural South Burnett Training Awards in Kingaroy on Saturday night means the event looks set to become an annual celebration.

The night was organised by a small committee from Kingaroy Sunrise, a satellite club of Kingaroy Rotary.

About 130 diners – including local business owners and their employees – gathered at Kingaroy Town Hall for the award announcements.

The inaugural Small Business of the Year Award was taken home by Michelle and Clinton Hansen, from Hansen Kitchens.

Hansen Kitchens also picked up another award, with employee Jordan Moy named Apprentice Of The Year.

Nominations for the six award categories were sought from businesses across the South Burnett.

Sunrise chair Mark Pitt said the judging had been very challenging, with the categories hotly contested.

As well as the winners (see below), finalists in various categories were also acknowledged on the night.

Mr Pitt said the awards had been “immensely successful”.

“We’ve experienced a number of trying years, so it’s great to be able to get back out there and celebrate those who are learning in our region and offering high quality service,” he said.

“And while we are taking a small break, we look forward to running the event again in 2024.”

The evening also included the presentation of the Kingaroy Rotary Club’s “Pride Of Workmanship” awards, presented by club president Kerry Heit.

These awards recognise employees who have commitment to a work ethic of “Do It Once, Do It Well”.

The Rotary Satellite Club of Kingaroy Sunrise was launched in July 2022. It meets on the first and third Thursday mornings at 7:00am at the KCCI Hub in Kingaroy Street, Kingaroy.

Kingaroy Rotary meets on Mondays at 6:30pm at the South Burnett Care Centre, corner Kingaroy and Avoca streets, Kingaroy.
