Volunteers at the Council-owned Visitor Information Centres and museums in the South Burnett recently enjoyed a “famil” (ie. familiarisation tour) of the region’s attractions.

The South Burnett Regional Council offers the “famil” quarterly as a way to thank the volunteers for all their hard work as well as showcase what the South Burnett has to offer.

The volunteers can then take this knowledge and share their experiences with visitors.

The recent “famil” started with morning tea at the historic Taabinga Homestead. The volunteers then enjoyed lunch before heading out for a tour of the Bjelke-Petersen family property, ‘Bethany’.

Cr Jane Erkens said without the assistance of the volunteers, the many benefits of the South Burnett would remain a secret.

“I hear such great compliments from those who visit our Visitor Information Centres,” Cr Erkens said.

Anyone who has a few spare hours a week, would like to contribute to the community and meet new people have been invited to phone (07) 4189-9555 or email tourism@sbrc.qld.gov.au to get an application form to become a Council volunteer.
