District Governor Tim Keeler, second from right, with local club presidents … Heath Sander (Murgon), Mark Pitt (Kingaroy Satellite) and Kerry Heit (Kingaroy)

February 1, 2023

South Burnett Rotarians gathered together in Kingaroy on Monday night for a special dinner with visiting District Governor Tim Keeler AM.

Tim, from the Logan Rotary Club, has made it his mission to visit all 128 clubs in his District 9620 while serving as Governor.

This is a big ask, as the District covers a large slice of Queensland as well as Papua New Guinea, the Solomon Islands and Nauru.

Tim knocked off three clubs from his list this week: the Kingaroy, Kingaroy Satellite and Murgon clubs.

He said visiting Kingaroy was “just like coming home”.

Tim is a familiar face in the town, spending much time here when he chaired the District 9600 Conference hosted by the Kingaroy club in 2021.

Since then District 9600 has amalgamated with District 9630 to form District 9620.

Tim said clubs would be celebrating 100 years of Rotary in Queensland at this year’s District 9620 Conference, which will be held from March 24-26 at the Brisbane City Hall.

This was the site of Rotary’s first Queensland conference, held in 1931.

Guest speakers will be former Governor-General Sir Peter Cosgrove AK CVO MC; actor William McInnes; former AMA president, politician and diplomat Brendan Nelson AO; lawyer and academic Noel Pearson and author Holly Ransom.
