Tansey resident Rachael Lehmann has been presented with the inaugural Australia Day “Resilience Award” from Gympie Regional Council for her work during the region’s flood recovery efforts last year.
The award was announced at Council’s Australia Day awards ceremony held in Memorial Park, Gympie, on Thursday morning.
The Resilience Award is a new category introduced by the GRC.
It is open to all residents of the Gympie region who have demonstrated a high level of resilience while facing personal or community challenges during the year.
Rachael played a key role in the recovery efforts after the three floods which hit the Booubyjan, Tansey and Goomeri areas in 2022.
“Rachael ignored her own farm’s clean up to co-ordinate the clean-up at the Tansey tennis club,” a Council spokesperson said.
“Rachael took the lead in cooking for the BlazeAid group, spending hours cooking and delivering the food.”
