Three LifeFlight rescue helicopters were called to the scene of a two-vehicle collision at Cushnie on Wednesday morning.

A QAS spokesperson said three people suffered serious injuries:

  • A man, aged in his 20s-30s, was airlifted to the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane in a critical condition with chest injuries,
  • A woman, aged in her 70s, was airlifted in a serious but stable condition to Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital with leg injuries and abdominal pain, and
  • A woman, aged in her 40s, was airlifted to Toowoomba Hospital in a serious condition with pelvic injuries.

Emergency services were called to the crash on Cushnie Road, between Quarry Road and Reinkes Road, about 11:13am.

Six QFES crews attended the scene and the LifeFlight helicopters landed on the road nearby.

When they arrived they found two occupants still trapped inside one of the vehicles.

A QFES spokesperson said the driver was freed first but hydraulic cutting equipment had to be used to free the passenger from the wreckage.

Both patients had been freed by 12:15pm.

The Forensic Crash Unit has been called to the scene to investigate the cause of the collision.

One of the vehicles reportedly crashed into the side of the other.
