South Burnett mayor Brett Otto has welcomed news that Council will receive $631,141 for surface repairs to the South Burnett Rail Trail.

The funding was reported by southburnett.com.au on November 17.

It has been approved under the Community and Recreational Assets Recovery and Resilience Program.

The mayor said the grant would allow “numerous” surface repairs to be carried out, particularly where sections of bitumen have been stripped away.

Gravel sections of the South Burnett section of the trail north of Murgon will also be repaired.

“Whilst temporary repairs have been completed to allow usage of the rail trail, Council welcomes this funding,” Mayor Otto said.

“It will allow for permanent repairs to reinstate the integrity of the surface, and provide a level of resilience to those sections which continue to be damaged by rain events.”

Cr Kathy Duff said she was excited to receive this support.

“There is a lot of work to do on the northern end in particular and I know that hundreds of users will be excited to have full use of the trail again,” she said.
