The South Burnett community has been invited to provide feedback on the draft Wide Bay Burnett Regional Plan, a document which aims to guide growth in the region for the next 25 years.
The 154-page plan, released on Tuesday, covers the Council areas of the South and North Burnett, Cherbourg, Gympie, Fraser Coast and Bundaberg.
Deputy Premier Steven Miles said it had been 11 years since the release of the last regional plan, and in that time economic, social and environmental factors had changed.
“Updating the regional plan will ensure that the region is best placed to respond to these shifts and improve opportunities for economic development and liveability across the Wide Bay Burnett,” Dr Miles said.
It has been prepared after consultation with local councils, industry and community members.
According to the State Government’s planning website, the plan:
- Establishes a shared vision for the Wide Bay Burnett’s future and provides the steps to achieve this
- Identifies and plans for the continued development of a diverse economic profile
- Responds to region-specific challenges and opportunities
- Will inform major strategic planning and infrastructure decisions for local governments and State planning
- Will provide support for key planning directions
Feedback is open until February 24.
