South Burnett Regional Council is refurbishing Blackbutt’s distinctive town clock and plans to install a new movement.

A Council spokesperson said work on the project would begin on Monday.

About seven car-parking spaces will be closed temporarily in the centre of Coulson Street to allow the work to begin.

The clock tower will be repainted and the old clock movement will be removed.

A new clock movement will be manufactured off site and installed at a later date.

The clock, situated in the centre of Coulson Street, was installed in 1988 by the Blackbutt-Benarkin Bicentennial and Centenary Committee.

  1. This is great news! Losing a few car parking spaces for a short period of time is a small inconvenience in order to have a clock, particularly in the main street, keeping accurate time.

  2. Sadly, a lot of young people don’t seem to understand analog time clocks.

I’ve noticed, from movies and TV series, that a lot of towns in North America have digital time displays, especially on banks and “gas” stations. Many also include the current temperature which I guess is very important in colder regions.
