South Burnett Eagles Under 15s put in a valiant effort on Saturday but just missed out on taking out the Toowoomba Junior Rugby League premiership.
The Grand Final game was played in blustery conditions at Clive Berghofer Stadium in Toowoomba in front of a big crowd.
The Eagles earned the right to take on the Valleys Roosters after notching up a tight 18-16 victory over Highfields in the Preliminary Final the week before.
Valleys powered to a 10-0 lead in the early stages of the game before the Eagles put their first points on the board via a try to Liam Irwin in the corner.
A converted try by Shamus Cobbo then evened the score at 10-all, quickly followed by a try to Linx Harth.
At half-time, the South Burnett Eagles led 14-10.
Valleys went on the attack after the break, scoring three tries in succession, taking their lead to 26-14.
But South Burnett weren’t about to give up and fought back strongly.
Tries to Shamus Cobbo and Blake Dynevor brought the score 26-24.
But with just minutes left on the clock, a difficult conversion attempt from the sidelines would have evened the scores but it hit the posts in the windy conditions and was waved away.
The Eagles kept up the pressure but unfortunately couldn’t shift the scoreboard.
South Burnett tries were scored by Shamus Cobbo (2), Liam Irwin, Blake Dynevor and Linx Harth. Harrison Braithwaite kicked two conversions.
