A Youth Mental Health First Aid course for parents and carers will be offered by Darling Downs Health at the Barambah Youth Hub in Gore Street, Murgon, next month.
The course is an opportunity for parents and carers of young people to learn how to provide initial support to adolescents who may be developing a mental health problem or suffering a mental health crisis.
It is free and participants will receive a manual and certificate upon completion.
The course will run over two sessions, from 9:00am to 4:00pm on October 19 and October 26.
Participants must attend both days to receive their Mental Health First Aid certificate.
Mental health problems include depression, anxiety, eating disorders or substance abuse.
Mental health crises include suicidal thoughts and behaviours, self-injury, panic attacks, aggressive behaviours and severe psychotic states.
Participants will learn about adolescent development and the signs and symptoms of mental health problems.
