Beach volleyballers Taliqua Clancy and Mariafe Artacho Del Solar are coming home with a silver medal after a sterling effort at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games.
Clancy and Artacho del Solar defeated duos from Sri Lanka (2-0), Trinidad and Tobago (2-0), Cyprus (2-0), Scotland (2-0) and Vanuatu (2-0) to earn a spot in the Grand Final game against Canada, played on Sunday.
The Aussies had not lost a set during their charge towards the gold medal game while the Canadian pair, Sarah Pavan and Melissa Humana-Paredes, had conceded just one against New Zealand in their semi-final clash.
Clancy and Artacho del Solar started strongly in a tight first set in the Grand Final, taking it out 24-22, but went down 21-17 in the second.
Unfortunately for the Aussies, the Canadians finished strongly in the decider, winning 15-12 and giving them a 2-1 victory.
Ironically, Clancy and Artacho del Solar scored a stunning victory over Pavan and Humana-Paredes in a sudden-death quarterfinal clash at the Tokyo Olympics last year, knocking them out of the competition.
Clancy and Artacho del Solar went on to also win silver at the Olympics.
