The South Burnett Thrashers powered back into the winner’s circle on Saturday with a decisive 24-5 victory over the Gatton Black Pigs.

The Darling Downs Rugby Union competition game was played at USQ in Toowoomba.

“In the first half we were running into the wind which meant Gatton was able capitalise on their field position, going into half-time with a 5-0 lead,” club president Jamie Shirlaw said.

“In the second half, with the wind behind us, the Thrashers were able control possession of the ball.

“We were able to hit back with four unanswered tries.

“Try scorers were Marcus Jensen, Jaycob Brazier, Elaijah Kocovanua and new recruit Austin Sarry. Marcus kicked two conversions.

“Jaycob and Elaijah were back from injury, so it was good to have them come back and have a big impact on the game.

“Eparama Turaganivalu had a strong performance in the forward pack and was named Man Of The Match.”

The Thrashers will now enjoy a week off due to a full-round bye.

Their next game will be the big Old Boys Day home game in Kingaroy on July 9.
