Former South Burnett Regional Council Citizen of the Year Joan Adams was killed in a tragic farming accident at Mungindi last Friday (June 10).

Friends were advised of her death by her daughter, Meschelle Martin, on social media:

“On behalf of Joan Adams’ family, we would like to advise you of her sad passing in a tragic accident today, funeral details will be made available at a later date. RIP mum you will be missed by so many family and friends you have made over the years.”

Joan was named South Burnett Citizen of the Year in 2015.

She was involved in the organisation of the Tableland Markets and the Murgon Show, and was a member of the Proston QCWA, the Tableland Hall Committee, Porcolettes and the South Burnett Wildlife Carers.

She also co-ordinated and cooked community dinners hosted at the Tablelands Hall for drought-affected farmers.

Friend Ron Murphy, from BlazeAid, said Joan’s help, friendliness and great humour were unbeatable.

She left the Murgon area to become a BlazeAider.

Ron’s online tribute to Joan read:

“You will be sadly missed, Joan. She leaves not only her daughter and family but also great friends all over Oz. RIP Joan. You will always be remembered.”

South Burnett councillor Kathy Duff said Joan died while helping to load a quad bike.
