Five roads remain closed throughout the South Burnett region in the wake of the recent rain but another 11 remain “affected”, according to Council.
The South Burnett Regional Council has requested its fourth activation since last November of funding through the Queensland Reconstruction Authority.
Deputy Mayor Gavin Jones said the current road closures were re-inspected twice a day by Council road crews.
“Roads crews are trained and well-equipped and erect appropriate signage,” Cr Jones said.
“We ask for the public’s patience and understanding if they see a damaged road undergoing a short-term repair.”
Cr Jones said initial repairs were only temporary prior to an inspection that formed the basis of a claim for Commonwealth funds that will enable the repair to be completed to a high standard.
“Residents are asked to not rush to judgment when they see the initial temporary stage of repair. The road damage has to be inspected so we can claim the money to fix it properly. We will be back to do a proper job.
“Council staff are responding with great effort to the challenges posed by recent weather events, and I thank them wholeheartedly.”
