Darling Downs Health has advised that a temporary influenza and COVID-19 vaccination clinic will be at the Murgon Youth Hub on Thursday (June 2).
The clinic will be held at the Youth Hub in Gore Street from 10:00am-4:00pm.
It will be open to all community members and no bookings are required.
People aged six months and older can receive a free influenza vaccination.
Eligible community members, can receive their first, second or booster doses of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccination.
A winter COVID-19 booster dose is recommended for people:
- Aged 65 years or older
- Resident in an aged care or disability care facility
- Who are severely immunocompromised, with conditions such as diabetes on medication, cancer, chronic lung and liver conditions, chronic cardiac and kidney disease, severe obesity or underweight, chronic inflammatory conditions
- Who are Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander and aged 50 years and older.
- Aged 16-64 and with a medical condition that increases the risk of severe COVID-19 illness
- Aged 16 to 64 with a disability with significant or complex health needs or multiple comorbidities which increase the risk of a poor outcome.
“Typically, we see influenza cases in the community increase in mid-June,” Darling Downs Health spokesperson Michelle Forrest said.
“This year, we’ve seen a rapid increase in the number of influenza cases in our community much earlier and we expect that to continue to grow over the coming weeks.
“We’re excited to be able to provide an influenza vaccination to all members of the community at no cost, which we know reduces the risk of severe cases.
“In addition to offering an influenza vaccination, the clinic will also provide COVID-19 vaccinations. If you are due for a COVID-19 booster, or perhaps you’re still to receive your first dose, come on in to the clinic and one of our friendly team will be able to help.”
