Author and Collective Shout campaigner Melinda Tankard Reist is returning to Kingaroy later this month as a special guest of local Christian group, Sistas in Sync.

The free community information evening, “Too Much Too Young –  The Sexualisation Of Our Young People And What We Can Do About It”, will be held from 7:00pm on May 24 at St John’s Lutheran School.

Parents and interested community members have been invited to learn how to talk to their children about porn.

“Parents – if you missed Ms Tankard Reist’s explosive community presentation last year you have another opportunity to find out how to help your children protect themselves from the devastating effects of pornography now readily available through all media platforms,” Sistas in Sync’s Jenny Hoare said.

“If your child has a smart phone, attends a school, has access to the internet via a device or walks the malls in a large town they will most probably have seen or be viewing pornography.

“This is because as a society we have allowed the media to continue to objectify girls and women in advertising and the porn industry, and we have failed to prevent the use of social media to sexually bully and harass girls and women.

“The best protection starts with education, information and healthy discussions with our children and young people about their bodies, sexuality and identity. Most importantly is helping our children and young people to develop robust self-respect and to expect respect and caring from others.”

Copies of a free book, “How to Talk to Your Kids About Porn”, will be offered to the first 100 people who attend the information evening.
