Images from the newly installed weather radar near Taroom are now live on the Bureau of Meteorology’s website and BOM Weather app.
BOM spokesperson Dr Peter Stone said the weather radar would assist people across the Fitzroy, Condamine and Burnett River catchments to track rain, wind, storms and severe weather.
South Burnett towns are covered by both the 256km and 512km composite radar loops.
“Dual-polarised Doppler technology weather radars are one of the best tools for observing real-time rainfall and wind conditions across large areas, and we know this information is highly valuable for communities, particularly primary producers,” Dr Stone said.
Dr Stone said the new radar was one of four new radars being delivered for Queensland, with $77.2 million funding from the Federal Government.
An existing radar in Moree, NSW, will also be moved to provide increased coverage into southern Queensland.
