Local councils will receive a boost from an extension to the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure (LRCI) Program announced in Tuesday night’s Federal Budget.

“This funding injection gives our Councils greater capacity to prioritise important upgrades to local roads, community halls, playgrounds, parks and sports facilities that will help our communities stay connected, vibrant places to live,” Member for Wide Bay Llew O’Brien said.

Member for Maranoa David Littleproud also welcomed the funding, which councils will be able to access from July next year.

“Providing more time for planning and construction will enable local governments to consider a broader range of priority projects and potentially undertake larger, more complex developments to deliver even greater benefits for their communities,” he said.

Local councils will receive the following payments through the Phase 3 extension:

  • Cherbourg Aboriginal Shire Council – $39,849
  • Gympie Regional Council – $1,361,802
  • South Burnett Regional Council – $1,644,465
  • Toowoomba Regional Council: $4,092,300
