Historical child sex charges laid against an 80-year-old former Queensland MP were dropped by prosecutors in December, it was revealed this week.

The multiple charges of indecent dealing, allegedly involving teenage girls, were laid in March 2021.

The charges alleged incidents between December 31, 1974 and January 1, 1977, in Brisbane, Toowoomba and Roma, prior to the man being elected to State Parliament.

Defence counsel for the former MP, who was on bail, had previously indicated the matters would be contested.

AAP reported on Wednesday the charges were dropped on December 9 in the District Court.
