The Goomeri Pumpkin Festival has a new committee, the second elected since a plea went out in October last year for volunteers to “save” the festival.
A new committee was elected in November but in early January a “resignation” post appeared on social media noting the new committee had experienced some “ups and downs” but thanking everyone for working with it from November 14 through to January 12.
A meeting to elect a second committee was held in Goomeri last Thursday (January 27).
“The meeting and subsequent elections in November resulted in a new Committee but for a number of reasons, and some unexpected resignations being a huge part of this, it was decided that a new meeting be held, and a new election process be held,” an announcement on the official Goomeri Pumpkin Festival Facebook page on Monday stated.
“No community events are easy; it requires lots of time and dedication and the help of the community.
“It has always been a struggle to find and maintain volunteers, the Committee is only as good as the lovely people who volunteer to help us.
“We couldn’t do it without you all, and we will appreciate any help gratefully.”
The new Committee members elected last week are:
- Co-ordinator – David Mawhinney
- Secretary – Kim Thomas
- Treasurer – Louise Quinn
The new Committee will be holding its first Executive meeting on Tuesday (February 1), in part to make a decision about this year’s Pumpkin Festival.
