An innovative pilot project to develop a call centre in Cherbourg – first unveiled last October – is one step closer to fruition.

The project involves the Department of Innovation & Tourism Industry Development, Fujitsu and Cherbourg Council.

A Letter of Intent was signed between the three parties last year to develop a call centre at Cherbourg.

The centre would create jobs in the community as well as provide career opportunities.

It will initially work with technology giant Fujitsu but could be expanded to service more clients.

At the time, Nicole Forrester, from Fujitsu Oceania, said she hoped the pilot project would be launched at the end of March 2022.

An information session has now been scheduled in Cherbourg for local residents interested in working at the call centre.

The session will be held at TAFE Queensland’s Nurunderi Campus next Wednesday (February 9) from 2:00pm.
