It’s now Kingaroy’s turn to host a “Santa Claus Lane”, thanks to the efforts of residents in Rosella Parade.

Rosella Parade is now proudly displaying an ice blue fingerboard, joining previous winners Amaroo Drive (Wondai) and Wondai Road (Proston).

South Burnett Regional Council CEO Mark Pitt announced the winner of the 2021 competition on Thursday morning.

“Santa Claus Lane” aims to capture South Burnett community spirit.

Mark said it gave him great joy every year to announce the winner.

“The co-operation demonstrated by the residents of Rosella Parade, and their imaginative use of a common but well-known theme, gave them the edge over other excellent entries,” he said.

The Santa Claus Lane project was launched in 2019 to address changes in the funding of the Christmas lights competition.

“My wife and I recognised the need to encourage residents to continue lighting up the South Burnett, but also we wanted to encourage a sense of community which led to the inception of the Christmas Spirit Initiative. As a result, the Santa Claus Lane project began.”

Santa Claus Lane, while assisted by the South Burnett Regional Council, is funded personally by Mark and his wife Nicola who annually oversee and judge the winning entries.

Nicola said the Santa Claus Lane initiative showed true community spirit in the region.

“We believe that the region will prosper in an atmosphere which encourages locals to collaborate in this space. While there is no monetary reward, the standard of entries is simply amazing. We’ve had kids letterbox dropping their neighbours through to collaborative efforts in streets,” she said.

“There have been exceptional efforts in this year’s entrants which makes it difficult to decide on an individual winner, but there can only be one! Congratulations to Rosella Parade.”
