Motorists driving through Moore will notice a new splash of colour on the northern side of the D’Aguilar Highway.

The historic Moore Soldiers’ Memorial Hall is sporting a new coat of bright blue paint.

Somerset Mayor Graeme Lehmann said the hall committee was doing an excellent job in managing and maintaining the historic building.

“We are very fortunate in the Somerset region to have such committed and active people working to maintain and retain important community assets, and Bob and Linda Howe and their team of volunteers are examples of how a few people with a common goal can make a big difference,” Mayor Lehmann said.

The committee secured funding through Somerset Regional Council’s Community Assistance Grant program to paint the exterior of the 99-year-old building.

The hall was erected in 1922 in memory of those who served in World War I and is one of a handful of regional halls still owned by the community.

The committee raises funds in a variety of ways to keep the doors open, with regular markets and meetings, and an art gallery and op shop open every weekend.
