Some of Queensland’s top rugby union players – past and present – have been visiting schools around the region this week to raise interest in the sport.
Visits by players from the “Reds To Region” tour were planned for Kingaroy, Murgon and Nanango State high schools.
On Thursday, the players also dropped into Cherbourg’s NAIDOC celebrations where they encouraged local children to kick balls into a giant indoor net at the Sports Centre.
Later in the day, they joined the South Burnett Thrashers as the rain tumbled down during a training session at Wondai Sportsground.
The Thrashers, who are working to return to competition in 2022, went through some skills training under the watchful eyes of Queensland Reds captain Liam Wright, half-back Kalani Thomas, women’s rep player Alecia Pienaar and two “Vintage Reds”, former Wallabies Bill Ross and Garrick Morgan.
Liam later swapped jerseys with the team.
He was presented with a classic Thrashers’ jersey from the A grade premiership winning team of 1997.
