South Burnett Regional Council will debate an application for a new drive-thru restaurant in Kingaroy at Wednesday’s monthly General Meeting.

If approved, the restaurant would occupy a 2020sq m block at the corner of Alford and Youngman streets, opposite Kentucky Fried Chicken.

The proposal to construct the restaurant has been lodged by Town Planning Alliance on behalf of Interstate Locum Service Pty Ltd, which formerly traded as South Burnett Medical Centre.

What type of food business would operate the restaurant if it is built is not known.

Council officers noted that access to and from the restaurant would be on Alford Street. The single-storey development would be shielded from a neighbouring residential property by a blade wall and edge plantings.

Pedestrians would be able to access the site from Youngman Street.

The double block currently houses a former doctor’s surgery complex now occupied by Lives Lived Well, a drug and alcohol counselling service which moved into the premises in October 2018.

If the development proceeds, the block would be cleared and levelled before construction starts.

Officers said they found the development complied with all current conditions and would complement the CBD.

On this basis, they have recommended councillors approve the project.
