Several South Burnett community groups have joined forces to offer a free community dinner every Sunday afternoon in Kingaroy.
The dinner – promised never to be a sausage sizzle! – will be available from noon on Sundays in the Senior Citizens parkland area near Pound Street.
The first dinner was held last Sunday and was hosted by the Kingaroy Rotary Club.
People dropped in to enjoy some spaghetti bolognese or simply have a chat.
The volunteers promise the meals every Sunday will be different … “a nutritious surprise”.
Other community groups involved in the project include South Burnett Care, South Burnett CTC, Kingaroy QCWA, Kingaroy Lions, Kingaroy Church of Christ and the Salvation Army with assistance from the South Burnett Regional Council.
The plan is to eventually form an incorporated association to run this event and similar activities in other towns.
UPDATE October 17: The free Sunday meal has been relocated to the South Burnett Youth Park in Somerset Street, Kingaroy.
