Members of Queensland’s Treaty Advancement Committee will be online talking to communities across the State on Friday about Path to Treaty progress.

Registrations for the 2:00pm webinar can be made online here

Hosted by Kerry O’Brien, the Treaty Advancement Committee – including co-chairs Mick Gooda and Dr Jackie Huggins as well as Prof Michael Lavarch, Dr Sallyanne Atkinson and Dr Josephine Bourne – will be online for the Q&A webinar.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Partnerships Minister Craig Crawford said the briefing would help to connect communities with the historic process.

Dr Huggins said the opportunity to re-connect with communities would help shine a light on the progress being made.

“Part of this is about looking at the Eminent Panel’s recommendations and thinking through what those actions will look like as part of the implementation stage,’’ Dr Huggins said.

Mr Gooda said the next steps would be carefully considered to ensure an inclusive process for all Queenslanders.

“This is nation-building work. It’s about reconciling our past so that all Queenslanders can move forward together,” he said.

“We know that building trust with the broader community and designing culturally safe and meaningful mechanisms for truth-telling will be central to achieving our goals.

“There has been extensive consultation undertaken with Queenslanders right across the State, and these voices, ideas and learnings will be carried forward with us as we work through how implementation will be shaped.”

The Treaty Advancement Committee will report to government on options later this year.
