The intersection of Glendon and Markwell streets in Kingaroy will get a major upgrade to improve public safety

June 15, 2021

The Federal Government will spend $353,500 to fix a dangerous intersection near Kingaroy’s Shoppingworld.

The funding will come from the 2021-22 Black Spot Program and was announced by Member for Maranoa David Littleproud on Tuesday.

Mr Littleproud said community input was critical to identifying black spots in the electorate.

“Road crashes place major emotional and economic strains on all affected communities, but particularly the families and friends of the victims,” Mr Littleproud said.

He said the intersection of Glendon and Markwell Streets was particularly dangerous.

“Motorists often drive through this intersection at speed, resulting in a high rate of angle crashes,” he said.

“Works on this intersection aim to slow the speed of traffic through the roundabout while also increasing safety for pedestrians.”

Mr Littleproud said the upgrade would increase the diameter of the roundabout’s island.

Workers will also install kerb extensions, restrict parking bays, remove U-turn provisions, install a pedestrian refuge island, remove existing non-compliant kerb ramps and update the intersection’s signage.
