Woolworths Kingaroy store manager Cameron McKeown and Joan Dover, centre, with colleagues on Thursday

May 13, 2021

Workmates farewelled a popular colleague in style at Woolworths Kingaroy on Thursday afternoon.

Joan Dover is retiring after working at Woolies in Kingaroy for 21 years.

But that’s only part of her service … Joan originally joined the company 50 years ago at the Queen Street store in Brisbane.

She told southburnett.com.au after Queen Street she worked at the Mt Isa store.

Along the way she also had two children, so she worked for a while as a casual.

Kingaroy store manager Cameron McKeown presented Joan with flowers and chocolates near the checkouts as other staff members gave her a big round of applause.

Thursday was Joan’s last day at the cash registers, where she has become a very familiar face with customers.

“We wanted to make her last day in the store a little bit special for her,” Cameron said.

Joan’s now going on three weeks’ leave before she officially finishes up, but she’ll be back next week to enjoy a special morning tea with workmates.
