State Government MP Leanne Linard is the new “Ministerial Champion” for Cherbourg.

Ms Linard is the Minister for Children and Youth Justice and Minister for Multicultural Affairs.

She replaces former champion Dr Anthony Lynham who was appointed in 2016. Dr Lynham did not recontest the October 2020 State election.

Assistant Minister for Health and Regional Health Infrastructure Julieanne Gilbert has been named “Assistant Champion”.

The “Champions” program aims to connect 18 Queensland Indigenous communities with individual Ministers.

“In 2015, we re-established the Government Champions Program and in 2016 expanded the program to include Cabinet Ministers,” Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Partnerships Minister Craig Crawford said.

“Our renewed commitment will ensure Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Queenslanders, especially those living in the most remote corners of the State, have a say in the issues, solutions and aspirations for their communities.”

The Director-General, Department of Communities, Housing and Digital Economy, Clare O’Connor, will be Cherbourg’s “Government Champion”.
