Nanango Stags have proven too strong for all comers so far in the 2021 A Grade competition

Nanango Stags remain undefeated in A Grade after four rounds of the South Burnett Rugby League competition.

The Stags scored another runaway victory on Saturday, downing the Cherbourg Hornets 50-4 at Murgon Sportsground.

The Stags led 28-0 at half-time.

Nanango try scorers were Rob Ryan (3), Pat McCallum (2), Jakeb Mead, Rhyse Simpson, Tyson Keating and Harley Farrar. Simpson kicked seven goals.

Cherbourg try: Stafford Saltner.

Nanango have the bye this weekend.

Dwayne Malone escapes a Wondai tackle to score for Murgon in the first half

The second A Grade game at Murgon was between the home team and the Wondai Wolves.

This also had a blowout full-time score, with the Murgon Mustangs defeating Wondai 58-6 after leading 34-0 at half-time.

Oddly, two of Murgon’s tries were scored after the siren in both halves.

Murgon try scorers were Maurice Fisher (2), Josiah Alberts (2), Orlyn Fisher, Arthur Saltner, Dwayne Malone, Luke Dudgeon, Daron Saltner-Bligh and Austin Mason. Goals were kicked by Daron Saltner-Bligh (8) and Dwayne Malone.

Alex Georgetown converted his own try for Wondai.

Both A Grade games will be played at Cherbourg this weekend (see times, below)

In Round 2 of the Toowoomba JRL Under 18s competition, South Burnett Eagles 30 defeated Pittsworth 22 at Drayton.

Eagles’ tries were scored by Lennox Bligh (3), Clayton Gadd-Weazel (2) and Lloyd Langton. Langton kicked three goals.

As we reported last week, a QRL Intrust Super Cup game will be played at Murgon Sportsground on July 17.

Sports Minister Stirling Hinchliffe named the teams this week: Sunshine Coast Falcons v Tweed Seagulls.

Two South Burnett teams – SB Blue and SB White – took part in the Under 13s Walkers Weekend Challenge in Toowoomba on April 16-17.

Fourteen teams competed in four pools, with SB Blue in Division 1 and  SB White in Division 4.

SB Blue were victorious in the Shane Walker Shield, defeating Valleys Black 28-4.

South Burnett player Zac Harris was named in an honorary “Team of the Carnival” at the end of the challenge.

The South Burnett were also awarded the Trish and Garry Family Spirit Award for their outstanding conduct and sportsmanship over the two days of competition.

In A Grade, the undefeated Nanango Stags have the bye, while Cherbourg and Wondai will be looking to notch up their first win of the season.
