Foods produced in Kingaroy will feature in a new six-episode TV show after the South Burnett Regional Council voted to contribute $12,000 towards the production.

At Wednesday’s Corporate standing committee meeting, Councillors were told Fraser Coast Tourism, in conjunction with Channel 7, plans to shoot a new TV show promoting food tourism.

The program will cover six locations (Port Douglas, Bowen, Rockhampton/Capricorn, Bundaberg, Hervey Bay and Kingaroy) and will focus on produce in each region chosen by Dan and Steph Mulheron.

Dan and Steph first rose to national prominence in 2013 when they won the fourth series of “My Kitchen Rules”.

The couple now operate two restaurants in Hervey Bay.

The show will be broadcast on the Seven Network in a 5:30pm time slot and the show’s promoters believe it will generate “$42,000 in total marketing value” for the region.

Councillors also heard that local tourism organisation, Visit South Burnett, may contribute $2000 towards the project, but noted this has yet to be confirmed.

Councillors voted to participate in the promotion.
