South Burnett primary school children have been invited again to take part in the State Government’s annual Farm Safety calendar competition.
Twelve winners will be published in the 2022 calendar, which will be distributed free to rural communities.
Each winner will receive a $250 gift voucher and $500 for their school.
Entries close on Friday 25 June, with the winners to be announced in September.
Industrial Relations Minister Grace Grace said it was a great way to get children thinking about safety
The agriculture industry employs around 3 per cent of Queensland’s workers but accounts for more than 30 per cent of workplace deaths, Ms Grace said.
“Farm vehicles, sometimes involving children, figure in a large proportion of those incidents,” she said.
“The numbers aren’t great and that’s why we are raising awareness among school children, their families and their communities to help buck the trend.”
The annual competition has been running since 2015 with almost 6500 Queensland children having entered over the past six years.
South Burnett schools have featured strongly in previous years, collecting many prizes.
Entries for the 2022 calendar should illustrate one of six farm safety messages:
- Electrical safety,
- Animal safety
- Tractor and machinery safety
- Quad bike safety
- Water safety, and
- Health and wellbeing.
