Nanango’s Fitzroy Hotel … owner Peter Jackson is offering a total of $51,000 in grants to not-for-profit community groups

March 11, 2021

Fitzroy Hotel owner Peter Jackson is celebrating 17 years in business in Nanango by offering 17 grants of up to $3000 each to local not-for-profit community groups.

Applications for the community grants have been invited from groups in Nanango, Yarraman and Blackbutt.

“The community has been good to me. It’s a family business and we decided to give back because the community has supported us,” Peter told southburnett.com.au.

“It was just a little idea I had and it’s been well-received.”

Applications for the grants close on May 31.

Peter’s hoping that sporting groups and clubs, emergency services, P&Cs, kindys and other community groups will apply.

“Any not-for-profit group is eligible,” he said.

The decision on which grants will be awarded will be made by a group of five community members, including local businesspeople.

Peter won’t be part of this committee, but he said if the group decided that more than 17 groups deserved to receive support he would consider extending the funding available.

“We have an amazing business here. I have done very well in Nanango and I want to support the people who support me.”

Peter said the grants would be on top of the other Fitzroy Hotel sponsorships, including the Nanango Race Club and the Nanango Stags rugby league club.

“I think this is a very good idea,” Peter said.  “I hope we can continue it on.”

A copy of the Community Grants Program policy and application forms are available from the Fitzroy Hotel at 53 Fitzroy Street, Nanango.
