Two men were airlifted to hospital with burns on Sunday afternoon after a vehicle ran off the road and caught on fire on the D’Aguilar Highway at Harlin.

The burning light truck sent plumes of black smoke into the area while firefighters fought to control the blaze.

A small grass fire around the vehicle was quickly brought under control.

The Sunshine Coast-based RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter was despatched to the scene about 3:30pm.

The helicopter landed on the oval at the nearby Harlin State School.

QAS paramedics assisted the injured men before they were transferred to the medevac helicopter.

They were then flown in a stable condition to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital for further treatment.

Traffic on the highway was blocked while emergency services were at the scene.

Investigations into the cause of the incident are continuing.
