The Goomeri Pumpkin Festival has received a major cash injection from Gympie Regional Council ahead of its 2021 event.
The $50,000 cash sponsorship was announced by Mayor Glen Hartwig at a special invitation-only sponsors celebration held last Friday night at the Goomeri Hall of Memory.
The GRC had promised $50,000 cash for last year’s event, too, but a Council spokesperson said this was contract was cancelled and the cash was not paid when the festival did not go ahead due to the pandemic.
The $50,000 sponsorship for the 2021 event – which is celebrating its 25th year – is a large increase on recent levels of support the festival has received from the GRC.
In 2017-18, Council provided $10,500 sponsorship which consisted of $8000 in cash, and $2500 in-kind.
In 2018-10, the GRC provided cash sponsorship of $20,000.
South Burnett Regional Council also provides a small sponsorship package – believed to be worth about $1000 – towards the Goomeri Pumpkin Festival.
