A 79-year-old Orana resident was robbed at knifepoint in Kingaroy on Monday night after two men kicked in the screendoor of her independent living unit about 10:00pm.

Officer-in-charge of Kingaroy Police, Senior Sergeant David Tierney, said the woman was badly shaken but not physically hurt during the ordeal.

Between 10:00pm-10:15pm, the elderly resident – who was alone in her unit in Macdiarmid Street – was enjoying a cup of tea before bed.

“She heard a noise at her flyscreen and then a bang,” Snr Sgt Tierney said.

The thieves apparently kicked in the flyscreen door and rushed into the room.

One was brandishing a large knife, possibly about 15cm long, as he threatened her.

Both had their heads covered, but the woman has told police she believes they were young men.

“They asked ‘Where are your car keys?’,” Snr Sgt Tierney said.

The shaken woman immediately complied, pointing to where the keys were and the duo took off.

At 2:30pm on Tuesday, the woman’s 2001 silver Honda CR-V (registration 239-LDY) had still not been located.

Snr Sgt Tierney appealed for anyone who may have been in the Macdiarmid Street area on Monday night and saw anything suspicious to contact Kingaroy Police on (07) 4160-4900 or Crime Stoppers anonymously on 1800-333-000.

QAS paramedics were called to the unit and the woman was taken to Kingaroy Hospital for assessment but later released.

  1. This is disgraceful. Just consider the trauma that this elderly lady has experienced not to mention the way she will feel forever onward as well as the losses and inconvenience she will now have to put up with! We cannot feel safe anywhere anymore can we? This car theft can happen anywhere and at anytime and to anyone!

Labor’s press conference today re. crime etc was really no different from the statements made by our Premier about 11 months ago and a year before that. Nothing has changed; nothing at all; Just shows Labor’s commitment to the public. Either they do not care or they do not have a clue on what is needed (probably both).

Right now they are NOT making breach of bail an offence. Cripes, how can anyone think anything else but incompetence by Qld Cabinet? It seems as if all there is, is talk and more talk just to appease the party supporters.

This swiftly increasing and flourishing crime would not have happened in the days of Joh and we all now have to put up with this Left ideology’s goings on!

  2. A despicable act perpetrated by a couple of lowlifes. They’ve obviously targeted her. The Orana Lutheran Complex appears to be located in a quiet suburban area.

As you are no doubt aware, the problem with society today is that values like respect for fellow citizens and their property are no longer taught in schools nor in most homes. As a consequence we have crimes like this, and others such as “road rage”, which is nothing more than people being unable to control their emotions.

I fear for future generations unless socially acceptable behaviour is taught during a child’s first years and then throughout their schooling, not just as a one-off topic.

Please keep posting comments on this website. While I may not always agree with them I do find them interesting and a worthwhile addition to the journalist articles.
