A Kingaroy gamer – and IT expert – has raised almost $5000 for various charities this year through his online community.

Damian Nicholson, whose gamertag is SparhawkGames, has raised the funds while streaming video games on his Twitch channel.

He organises fundraising campaigns via Tiltify which links gamers with various charities.

Damian’s main games are Realm Royale, Among Us and Rogue Company.

The charities he has been supporting include the Starlight Children’s Foundation and the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), however it was a local fundraising cause which started him off.

Kingaroy teacher Sandy Walker had been raising funds to support the Benevolent Hope Academy in Kenya, and Damien joined in, helping to raise funds for a kitchen at the school.

Earlier this year, Damian ran a promotion raising funds for Starlight, promoted among the local gaming community.

And recently he ran a trivia night, “Treevia Thursday”, which was an official part of a WWF campaign to “Keep Koalas Climbing”.

Damian says he is passionate about building a strong, compassionate and caring gaming community that “games for good”.

“I plan to do more of this in 2021,” he said.
