Fees for the disposal of commercial, industrial and construction waste at South Burnett Regional Council tips will rise on January 1.

The increase has been forced by the State Government’s Waste Levy, which was introduced on July 1, 2019 in an effort to reduce the amount of commercial and industrial waste generated in Queensland.

The levy applied to all business waste classifications and was initially planned to rise by $5 on July 1 each year until 2022.

This year, however, the State Government deferred the scheduled $5 increase for six months to help businesses deal with the financial impacts of COVID-19.

The affected waste classifications and disposal fees that will apply at Council Waste Facilities from January 1, 2021 are:

  • Construction and demolition waste – $126.50 per tonne (at Kingaroy) or per cubic metre (Nanango, Murgon or Wondai)
  • Commercial and industrial waste – $190.50 per tonne (at Kingaroy) or per cubic metre (Nanango, Murgon or Wondai)
  • Commercial asbestos and more than 10 sq m of domestic self-haul asbestos – $190.50 per cubic metre
  • Less than 10 sq m of domestic self-haul asbestos – $95.00 per cubic metre

Note: Kingaroy is the only Council Waste Facility with a weighbridge.
