South Burnett Regional Council met with Bunya Mountains community stakeholders on November 5 to discuss mobile communication shortfalls in the area.
Deputy Mayor Cr Gavin Jones and Council staff met with the Bunya Mountains Community Association Inc, Telstra and Western Downs Regional Council representatives to talk through blackspot issues.
“South Burnett Regional Council is committed to improving mobile coverage issues across the region and working closely with Western Downs Regional Council to see improved coverage for one of our most significant tourism assets,” Deputy Mayor Jones said.

An industry briefing will be held on Tuesday. November 24, at Kingaroy Town Hall from 5:30pm to discuss the procurement requirements for the project.
Topics of discussion will include:
- The schedule of works and methodology to procure goods and services for the project
- Approximate start dates and stages of the project
- How the project will be delivered
- Approximate value of the packages
- Where and how Council will be advertising for the project works
Council encourages civil works contractors and trades personnel to attend to gain an understanding on the project requirements.

The SBRC is holding a series of events to assist with mental health and community wellbeing and to raise awareness about support available for drought recovery.
The Farmers Night Out free dinners – funded through the Federal Government’s Drought Communities Program – will feature guest speaker Mary O’Brien (“Are You Bogged Mate”) with entertainment by Larry Cann.
A two-course meal will also be provided.
The Farmers Night Out are scheduled for:
- Friday, November 27 at Proston Hall (spaces left)
- Saturday, November 28 at Murgon Town Hall (booked out)
- Thursday, December 3 at Blackbutt Memorial Hall (spaces left)
- Friday, December 4 at Kingaroy Town Hall (spaces left)
The Farmers Night Out dinner events will be operating in line with Queensland Health Directives and have a COVID Safe checklist in place.

Council has commissioned Wards Electrical to begin a refurbishment of Council’s finance building, adjacent to the Kingaroy Library in Glendon Street.
The work will include replacement of the roof, new flooring/carpet and re-painting.
The project has been funded through the State Government’s Works 4 Queensland program.
It should be completed by December 18.
The Kingaroy Town Hall, Reception Room, public amenities and the car park behind the Town Hall can still be accessed from the entrances located in the Kingaroy forecourt and at the rear of the complex.

Council has also commissioned contractors to begin re-roofing the Nanango Tennis Club clubhouse.
The project, funded through Works 4 Queensland is scheduled to begin next Monday (November 16) and should be finished by mid-December.
Nanango Tennis Club is also getting an upgrade to its lighting system.
A grant sourced by the club to upgrade its lights will be topped up by Council to provide new light poles and electrical upgrades.
