Now’s the time to start thinking about the people in the local area who have achieved the most over the past 12 months.

Both the South Burnett and Toowoomba councils have opened nominations for their 2021 Australia Day awards.

The South Burnett award categories are:

  • Citizen of the Year
  • Young Citizen of the Year
  • Community Organisation of the Year
  • Lifetime Achievement Award
  • Volunteer of the Year
  • Junior Cultural Award
  • Senior Cultural Award
  • Local Achiever Award (Town & Rural)
  • Junior Sportsperson
  • Senior Sportsperson
  • Sports Administrator/Coach/Official Award

The official South Burnett awards ceremony will be held on the eve of Australia Day, January 25, at Wondai Town Hall.

The closing date for nominations is 4:30pm on Friday, November 13.

The Toowoomba award categories are:

  • Citizen of the Year (older than 26 years)
  • Young Citizen of the Year (no older than 26 years)
  • Cultural Award
  • Sports Award (Junior and Senior)
  • Community Group / Event of the Year
  • Citizen of the Year – Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander.

Nominations can be submitted online on the TRC website

The cut-off date for nominations in October 31.

Cr Geoff McDonald said the exact format of TRC’s 2021 Australia Day celebrations remained unclear due to the pandemic but Council was determined to host community functions if possible.
