South Burnett Regional Council has postponed all its scheduled “Chat With The Mayor” and “Rates Information” sessions in the wake of the latest COVID-19 cluster in the State.
Cancellation notices were posted on Council’s Facebook page.
The COVID-19 cluster – linked to the Brisbane Youth Detention Centre at Wacol – prompted an immediate tightening of gathering restrictions on Saturday by Queensland Chief Health Officer Dr Jeanette Young.
The new restrictions, which came into force at 8:00am on Saturday, state:
- A maximum of 30 people can gather publicly in a non-restricted area.
- A person who is an owner, resident, tenant, occupier, temporary occupier or person in control of a residence in a non-restricted area may allow up to 30 people to gather at a residence, including members of the person’s household.
- A person who owns, controls or operates premises, other than a residence, in a non-restricted area must not organise or allow a gathering of more than 30 people to occur on the premises.
The South Burnett Regional Council area is a non-restricted area.
However, the rules are different in eight council areas which are now declared “Restricted Areas”, ie. the Brisbane City, Ipswich City, Logan City, Scenic Rim, Lockyer Valley, Moreton Bay, Redland City and Somerset council areas.
In Restricted Areas, the following applies:
- Outdoor gatherings of up to 10 persons are allowed in a restricted area.
- A maximum of 10 people can gather publicly in a restricted area regardless of whether people are members of the same household or not.
- A person who is an owner, resident, tenant, occupier, temporary occupier or person in control of a residence in a restricted area may allow up to 10 people to gather at a residence, including the members of a person’s household. The visitors can be from different households. If a household consists of ten or more people then no visitors are allowed.
- A person who owns, controls or operates premises, other than a residence, in a restricted area must not organise or allow a gathering of more than 10 people to occur on the premises.
