South Burnett Saints fought back to be two goals ahead at half-time in their clash against Coolaroo in Toowoomba on Saturday.
But it wasn’t enough for the visitors to secure their third win of the shortened season.
At full-time, Coolaroo was ahead 11.16-82 to 8.10-58.
South Burnett goal kickers were Shaun Pukallus (2), Robert Goodwin, Daniel Trace, Keegan Wright and Jordan Brooker.
The Saints’ Women suffered a narrow loss against South Toowoomba in their away game, also played in Toowoomba.
South Burnett were ahead at every change but the Bombers put on a strong last quarter, kicking three goals after being kept goalless earlier in the game.
The final score was 3.6-24 to 2.8-20.
Saints’ two goals were kicked by Brisbane Lions Academy player Zimmorlei Farquharson.
South Burnett will be back at home this weekend (August 22) for their big Heritage Round.
The women will be rematched against the South Toowoomba Bombers from 12:30pm at Lyle Vidler Oval.
The men, playing in their heritage Kingaroy Bulldogs strip, will take on the Warwick Redbacks from 2:30pm.
It’s an opportunity for players and fans to reminisce about Australian Rules in the South Burnett over the years.
All past players, coaches and volunteers are invited to return for a fun day at the footy.
