More details have been released about the upcoming “Festival of the Dams” – sponsored by the South Burnett Regional Council – which will be held at Lake Boondooma this month.

Forty teams will be competing for a total of $15,000 worth of prizes plus custom-made trophies on August 14-16.

Organisers Fishing Freshwater announced late last week all team spots had now been booked.

A Council spokesperson said although all the nominations were filled, the public had been invited to come along to the dam to enjoy the festivities.

There will be live entertainment on the Friday night and lucky draws and raffles on the Saturday night.

Meals and other food options will also be available for competitors and visitors during the event.

“Come along and celebrate the re-opening of the dams,” Mayor Brett Otto said.

“The fishing has been amazing at Lake Boondooma and the competition is forecast to break a record 400 fish catch.

“Our region is blessed with two great family-friendly dams that offer superb recreation facilities, great fishing and excellent accommodation options. Bring your caravan, tent or treat yourself to a cabin and enjoy tranquillity and fishing excellence.”

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, all accommodation at Lake Boondooma, including unpowered sites, must be pre-booked. Bookings can be made online or by phoning (07) 4168-9694.

Advance bookings are also required at Bjelke-Petersen Dam and can be made online or by calling (07) 4168-4746.

Visitors at both dams are required to register their details, pay one night in advance upon booking and pay fees in full within seven days of arrival.
