Murgon businessman Heath Sander and his wife Rowena have been appointed the new managers for Yallakool Caravan and Recreation Park at Bjelke-Petersen Dam.

The couple is well-known as co-chairs of the Murgon Music Muster. Sadly, this year’s Muster has been postponed due to COVID-19 restrictions.

Heath, who is president of Murgon Rotary and Assistant Governor for Rotary District 9600, is also well-known for his Sanders Bobcat & Mini Excavator Hire business which has been kept busy lately with the upgrades to Murgon footpaths.

South Burnett Regional Council also announced on Wednesday that Doug and Kath Hughes will continue as managers of the Lake Boondooma Caravan and Recreation Park.

A spokesperson said Council received 14 Expressions of Interest for the tourist park manager positions, with nine progressing to interviews.

“Both couples are highly motivated, passionate and experienced in caravan and accommodation principles,” a Council spokesperson said.

“They care about the community and the image that is portrayed when people visit our region, and are committed to developing mutually beneficial partnerships with Council, businesses and community groups in order to maximise the economic and social benefits that tourism brings to the South Burnett region.”

Doug and Kath Hughes were previously employed by Sustainable Park Solutions as the resident park managers at Lake Boondooma from December 2019, and as caretakers for the Esk Caravan Park & Brisbane Valley Rail Trail Motel from April 2019 through to December 2019.

Overnight accommodation at both Lake Boondooma and Yallakool will reopen in August.

Due to COVID-19 requirements, all accommodation – including unpowered sites – must be pre-booked and all guests will have to complete a guest declaration and pre-check in form.
