Local Buy – the procurement partner for local councils – is looking for businesses to register to supply goods and services across Queensland.

The organisation also connects businesses to not-for-profits, local and State Government-owned corporations, utilities, large corporate entities and more.

It is extending an invitation for local businesses across specific categories to join their supplier-base to access more work.

The tenders open to local businesses currently include:

  • Advertising and media services
  • Telecommunications services, and
  • Goods such as motor vehicles, office and stationery items, and chemical supply.

Tenders close on July 14.

Local Buy CEO Peter Mifsud said there were many opportunities available for businesses across these categories.

“Local governments want to support local businesses to help their communities recover from COVID-19,” Mr Mifsud said.

“Local governments alone spend $600 million through Local Buy arrangements. We are offering a gateway for local businesses to regrow and expand.

“We offer a one-to-many relationship which prioritises local businesses as a first choice.”

“We understand the impact COVID-19 has had on local businesses, and we want to make it as easy as possible for them to get more work, so that they can get back on their feet sooner.

“We will have another tranche of tenders opening in August with additional categories which we will be announcing shortly.

“Small-to-medium businesses are the backbone of this country and we want to see them thrive. We want to ensure that local businesses, particularly SMEs, are getting a slice of the local work and projects on offer.”
